Daniel Moses Barker (January 13, 1909 – March 13, 1994) was an American jazz musician, vocalist, and author from New Orleans. He was a renowned rhythm guitarist who played with Jelly Roll Morton, Sidney Bechet, Mezz Mezzrow, and Red Allen among others.
Beaded Portrait Series. In addition to Big Chief Demond's suits, he also creates intricately beaded portraits, which he recently exhibited at the 2018 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival as the first Mardi Gras Indian to ever be accepted in Contemporary Crafts. His beaded portrait series, which was first exhibited at Gallery Two on Royal Street, features the same sewing and beadwork techniques Demond has been using as a Mardi Gras Indian for the past 26 years.
