Charles Neville (December 28, 1938 – April 26, 2018) was an American R&B and jazz musician best known as part of The Neville Brothers. The second oldest of the four Neville brothers, his saxophone playing helped earn the group a Grammy Award for best pop instrumental performance.
Demond sewed this piece as one of two demonstration pieces during Jazz Fest.
Beaded Portrait Series. In addition to Big Chief Demond's suits, he also creates intricately beaded portraits, which he recently exhibited at the 2018 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival as the first Mardi Gras Indian to ever be accepted in Contemporary Crafts. His beaded portrait series, which was first exhibited at Gallery Two on Royal Street, features the same sewing and beadwork techniques Demond has been using as a Mardi Gras Indian for the past 26 years.
